[1] In the paper ‘‘Crustal motion in the zone of the 1960 Chile earthquake: Detangling earthquakecycle deformation and forearc-sliver translation’’ by K. Wang, Y. Hu, M. Bevis, E. Kendrick, R. Smalley Jr., R. B. Vargas, and E. Laurı́a (Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 8, Q10010, doi:10.1029/2007GC001721, 2007), in paragraph 8, two incorrect numbers were quoted in the following sentence: ‘‘The motion must have substantially slowed down from these rates, because the present margin-parallel component of the Nazca–South America motion is only about 9 mm/a according to geodetic observations [Angermann et al., 1999; Kendrick et al., 2003] or 11 mm/a according to the NUVEL-1a global plate motion model [DeMets et al., 1994].’’ The numbers 9 and 11 in this sentence should be replaced with 23 and 28, respectively. Accordingly, the phrase ‘‘about 75% of the margin-parallel component’’ in the Abstract should read ‘‘about 30% of the margin-parallel component.’’ This error has no effect on the data, modeling results, and conclusions presented in this paper.
