In this paper I distinguish two kinds of structure that appear in chemical explanations: geometrical structure and bond structure. I examine structural descriptions of a range of chemical substances including sodium chloride, water, cyclohexane and proteins, arguing that neither kind of structure is more basic than the other. Such pluralism should not be surprising, however, because at least in chemistry, structure is a creature of classification, and therefore of comparison.
