This action provides the first year's support for the Presidential Young Investigator (PYI) Award, FY 87. This support includes the NSF matching to the industry contribution provided to the P.I. Dr. Shing's nomination was considered as "Must Fund: by the Divisional PYI panel which convened on September 25-26, 1986. The award will be used in support of the research on seismic resistant design of structures.
