Partial Support of the NAS/NRC Committee on Seismology

This action is for continued partial support of the NAS/NRC Committee on Seismology. The activities supported include: (1) A study and report on the outlook for real time warnings of earthquakes in the United States. (2) A panel report on activities related to regional and national seismographic networks, particularly regional networks. Research using data from these networks is of particular concern to the Committee. (3) Continued Committee review of progress and needs for research on strong ground motions. This review includes the developments in programs resulting from the joint Committee on Seismology/Committee on Earthquake Engineering report: "Recommendations for the Strong- Motion Program in the United States". (4) The conduct of meetings of the Committee and its subgroups. (5) Initiation of additional studies, as appropriate.
