Support of Planning for the International Geosphere- Biosphere Program (IGBP)

The principal investigator will chair the Special Committee (SCGB) for the International Geosphere-Biosphere Program (IGBP) of the Internation- al Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU). This Committee is developing plans for international implementation of the IGBP, in conjunction with a series of national IGBP Committees establshied in the major countries expected to participate in the IGBP. The Special Committee has establi- shed a series of panels and working groups to initiate and complete plans for specific components of the IGBP. The present award is to im- prove the capabilities of the Chairman to communicate and interact with the memebers of the Committee and with the Committee's Panels and Work- ing Groups. The award will permit the acquisition of equipment for such communications and limited travel by the Chairman to participate direct- ly in meetings and related planning activities of the panels and working groups.
