Automatic Identification Applications In Industrial Engineering

自动识别技术包括条形码、磁条、射频识别、语音数据识别、机器视觉、光学字符识别、磁墨水识别和智能卡技术。它们都有相同的目的——快速准确地捕获数据。目前的BSIE课程没有涉及到正在迅速改变工业工程实践的自动识别技术。在这个项目下获得的设备将解决工业工程系本科生在实验室经验方面的不足。在实施本项目中所购买的设备将代表各种自动识别工具。除了学习每种识别技术的能力外，学生还需要在明确定义的项目中展示这些技术的有用性。

Automatic Identification technologies include bar codes, magnetic stripe, radio frequency identification, voice data identification, machine vision, optical character recognition, magnetic ink recognition and smart card technologies. They all have the same purpose - to rapidly and accurately capture data. The current BSIE curriculum does not have any exposure to the technology of Automatic Identification that is rapidly changing the practice of industrial engineering. The equipment to be acquired under this project will address this deficiency in the laboratory experience of undergraduate students in the Industrial Engineering department. The equipment to be purchased in carrying out this project will represent the variety of Automatic Identification tools. In addition to learning the capabilities of each type of identification technique, students will be required to demonstrate the usefulness of these techniques within well defined projects.
