This grant awards travel funds to subsidize the airfare for 6 named U.S. researchers to participate in the International Workshop on Models of Underspecification and the Representation of Meaning, to be held in Bad Teinach, Germany, May 18-22, 1998. The workshop is important to furthering the development of linguistic theory, and also applications of linguistics in the development of natural language processing software systems, a field in which European researchers are particularly active at present. The grant will ensure full U.S. participation in the workshop, and encourage collaborations between U.S. and European researchers working in these fields.
