UAF/ARSC Application under NSF NCRI Connections to the Internet Program for Meritorious Applications

This award is made under the high performance connections portion of ANIR's"Connections to the Internet" announcement, NSF 98-102. It providessupport for two years for an OC-3 connection to the vBNS for University ofAlaska at Fairbanks and the Arctic Region Supercomputing Center through apartnership with agency networks of DoD, NASA and NOAA. Applicationsinclude Arctic region on-line library, collaborative informationspreadsheet, distributed image spreadsheet, Eulerian polar ionospheremodeling, modeling study of ocean and sea ice, volcano observing, nearreal-time Auroral and space weather data and weather forecasts for nationalavionics. Collaborating institutions and agencies include University ofWashington, University of Missouri-Columbia, NASA Goddard Space FlightCenter, NOAA Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory, University ofColorado Boulder, USAF, FAA and Japan's MPT Communications ResearchLaboratory.
