英文摘要
Proposal Number: CCR-9970139TITLE: NSF-CNPq Collaborative Research: Automatic Configurationand Monitoring of Component-Based Distributed SystemsPI: Prof. Roy H. CampbellCO-PI: Prof. M. Dennis MickunasComponent technology has appeared as the most promising solution for theproblem of effective software development for the coming decades. Itsupportsthe construction of sophisticated systems by assembling together acollectionof off-the-shelf software components with the help of visual tools orprogrammatic interfaces. However, existing component architectures lacksupport to analyze and exploit the nature and magnitude of interactions anddependencies among components. The objective of this research is to apply the knowledge about componentrequirements and dependencies to permit the automatic configuration ofsoftware systems with little or no intervention from system administratorsorusers. It focuses on developing formal models and software tools forreifyingthe interactions between components. With these tools, the project willproduce (1) an infrastructure for automatic configuration of distributedcomponent-based systems and (2) a generic framework for collecting, consolidating, analyzing, and visualizing qualitative and quantitativeinformation about component interaction. The research will offer an important software infrastructure which has beenneglected by existing object and component architectures. It has a greatpotential impact on the reliability, flexibility, and automaticadaptability of next generation distributed systems.
