First Midwest Conference for New Directions in Experimental Design to be held May 18-20, 2000, in Columbus, Ohio

Abstract:DMS-9981741 PI: Angela Dean Co-PIs: Kathryn Chaloner, Dennis Lin, Dibyen MajumdarThe First Midwest Conference for New Directions in Experimental Design isplanned for May 18-29, 2000, at the Ohio State University. The meeting willfocus on the active areas of research in experimental design that haverelevance to industry, especially engineering and manufacturing. Areas ofemphasis are design for nonlinear models, experimentation for factorscreening, design for multiple linear responses, experimentation in thepresence of trends, computer experiments, and various other approachesincluding Bayesian methods. In addition to the invited talks, ample timewill be given for small group discussions in which new researchers willmeet with key speakers, mentors and other participants. A panel discussion isplanned for the final day of the conference to discuss the future ofexperimental design. Although the geographic area for inclusion of participants is restricted,the industrial use of experimentation in the face of time dependent,infrequent observations makes the topic of current major concern. This venuewill help focus part of the statistics community on these problems.
