英文摘要
EIA-0081761Zhao, WeiTexas Engineering Experiment StationITR: On a Virtual Laboratory for Network Engineering Educational ProgramsThe primary objective of this proposed research is to investigate issuesinvolved in building a virtual laboratory for network engineeringeducational programs. Different from a conventional teaching laboratory, the proposed virtual laboratory will not require students to physicallypresent in the laboratory rooms, rather they conduct their experiments viaremote network connections, such as the World Wide Web. The intent is todemonstrate that this kind of virtual laboratory facilitates the trainingof IT workers in a significant way: it will reduce the cost, increase thefacility utilization, and improve the quality of IT courses that areexperiment-oriented. This project will focus on addressing technicalchallenges that are critical for successful implementation and operation ofsuch a virtual laboratory. Configuration and scheduling techniques will bestudied that provide students with remote but real time access to theequipment during their experiments. These kinds of configurations must becarried out in an efficient and flexible manner so that a large number ofstudents can do their experiments simultaneously. Access control methodswill also be investigated that deal with the degree of control over networkcomponents given to the user. The efficacy of diverse access controlmethods will be examined over a range of implemented exercises. The aim isto build a virtual laboratory that allows an instructor to choose theinterplay of operating system support, experiment semantics, and networksupport to best suit the learning environment.
