Research in High Energy Physics: Theory and Phenomenology of Supersymmetry

Research in theoretical elementary particle physics will include studiesof supersymmetry and other new theories of fundamental particleinteractions. Supersymmetry is a promising idea which predicts theexistence of many new heavy subatomic particles. The properties of theseparticles, including their masses and the rates at which they decay intoother particles, will be studied under a variety of different theoreticalassumptions. The resulting predictions are important because they will affect boththe planning and the analysis of many present and future experiments thatsearch for new particles. These studies are of central importance forunderstanding the behavior of particle physics involving interactions atvery high energies. They will also impact on our understanding of thephysics of the very early universe, when the particles under considerationwould have been plentiful.
