The project pursues the working-hypothesis that SNAIL1 hijacks Wnt and BMP signaling to stimulate EMT-associated gene expression in colorectal cancer, and will dissect the role of LEF1, a Wnt pathway effector, and of SMAD proteins, mediators of BMP signals, in the execution of EMT. Novel LEF1- and BMP-regulated genes will be identified and their impact on proliferation and invasion will be characterized.
