A workshop entitled "Geodynamic Modeling of Tectonic Processes" is being held in Breckenridge, Colorado in June of 2005. Workshop participants are: (1) developing a community consensus on science issues that tectonic modeling should address in the coming decade; (2) developing a community vision on modeling strategies and tools that will be appropriate for addressing these science issues; (3) identifying opportunities and needs for interdisciplinary collaborations to examine multiple physical processes at various rates and spatial scales in tectonic modeling studies; (4) identifying technical issues that need to be addressed to improve modeling tools (or develop new tools) to address multiphysics and multiscale problems; and (5) establishing a procedure for integrating tectonic modeling studies into developing geoinformatics initiatives from allied researchers. Workshop participants include graduate students, early career scientists, and scientists from underrepresented groups in the geosciences. Workshop results will be disseminated broadly through a workshop report published in a widely circulated publication, posted on various websites, and in a white paper report to NSF program officers.
