英文摘要
0521467ArolaThe objective of this proposal is to acquire a nanoindentor for characterizing the material properties of specific tissues, biomaterials, and micromaterials. The specific projects proposed are 1) to investigate the age-dependent properties of dentin, 2) evaluate an experimental coating to reduce wear from artificial joints and 3) characterize an alternative material for microfabrication.. The required TriboIndenter will be the only one at UMBC, and will support collaborative research projects among the UMBC, the UM Dental School, the American Dental Association and the NIST. The instrument will be incorporated into three undergraduate laboratory courses, the Junior Engineers in Maryland Schools and the Research Scholars Program.
