Collaborative Research: Determination of Time Dependent Velocity and Velocity Gradient Tensor Fields for EarthScope

0545519BennettThe overriding-objective of this project is to use Earthscope data todetermine a high-precision, high resolution, four-dimensional image ofcrustal deformation for the North America continent on time-scales of daysto decades, and spatial-scales of kilometers to thousands of kilometers.We are pursuing this goal by analyzing continuous GPS data from Earthscope'sPlate Boundary Observatory (PBO) facility, and by expanding upon pastexperience in the analysis and modeling of plate boundary-scale crustaldeformations to better account for time-dependence of crustal motions. Thefundamental objective of developing methods to realize four-dimensionalsolutions of the velocity gradient tensor field will be achieved prior tothe full implementation of Earthscope. It is a primary goal to develop atool that the community can use for future analysis of Earthscope data asthe project matures.
