Significant theoretical progress has been made in recent years on the problem of three neutral atoms colliding at ultracold temperatures. The dependence of the associated elastic and inelastic rate coefficients on energy, mass, and scattering length is known for many combinations of identical bosons and identical fermions. Importantly, though, the behavior of the rates near Feshbach resonances, which are now used in nearly every experiment involving ultracold atoms, is not known for the majority of these systems. Moreover, three-body collisions are only growing in importance experimentally. This project will address many general theoretical issues of ultracold few-body collisions, and their behavior near a Feshbach resonance.
