Interdisciplinary (99)Scholarships Creating Opportunities for Retention in Engineering (SCORE) improves educational opportunities for minority students in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering. Retention rates to degree completion as well as graduation rates are increasing. Professional development, job placement, and advanced degree placement of participating students are also being improved. The student participants are being targeted through high school recruitment efforts from a university that is among the top producers of minority engineering graduates in the U.S. Additional students are being recruited from a local community college. The student participants are co-advised by academic mentors and are participating in structured mentoring programs and various student development seminars and workshops. The scholarship program helps to increase the number of quality minority graduates for the engineering work force. The outcomes of the project are disseminated through the literature, conference presentations, websites, and marketing campaigns to increase student interest in engineering as a profession.
