US-China Workshops for Early-career Chemical Scientists, Beginning January 2007

The Chemistry Division funds this award to the American Chemical Society to support the U.S. portion of a series of US-China Early-career Chemical Science Workshops. The PI of this award is Michael Snyder. The purpose of the workshops is to encourage exchange, communication, and cooperation between US and Chinese chemical investigators. The costs for the workshops will be shared with the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), who will cover China's costs for these workshops. This proposal is to cover the cost for American scientists. The US-China workshops aim to build bridges for the scientists to learn about their research projects, and develop mutually beneficial collaborations for the future of chemistry. ACS and NSFC have agreed to hold a series of three chemical workshops for 12 early-career scientists from each country on the topics of Chemical Biology, New Materials, and Supramolecular Chemistry. The activities supported with this award will lead to better ties between the rising generation of scientists in the US and China and will help ensure that the American scientific community remains abreast of advances in China.
