P.I.: Chris Kannen, PainterProposal Number: 0638404Chris Kannen, is an early career painter, who will travel to Antarctica to make observations, sketches and paintings while based at Lake Hoare Camp in Taylor Valley. The research infrastructure in this location provides an opportunity for the artist to observe a dramatic combination of fierceness and fragility. This balance and the emotional and imaginative reaction to living in such a remote and desolate place will be the focus of the project. The artist will be the first to capture the changing light in the extended field season during March and April, as part of International Polar Year.
