Experimental Research in Elementary Particle Physics

The major foci of the High Energy Physics Group at Rutgers University are: construction, operation and data analysis from the CMS experiment at the CERN collider to study pp interactions at 14 TeV; data analysis and operation of the CDF detector at Fermilab to study pp interactions at 2-trillion electron-volts (TeV); and implementing the chemical-vapor-deposition diamond detectors to monitor the CMS beam and measure collision luminosity. Broader Impacts of the program include significant work in QuarkNet throught the group's QuarkNet Center that summer workshops for high-school teachers on the Rutgers campus, and additionally participation in QuarkNet in the Chicago area, where Rutgers physicists participate in summer programs for high school students at Fermilab. Additionally the group is engaged in general outreach activities in New Jersey, including work with environmental activists on an energy conservation program.
