US-Peru Workshop in Nuclear Physics and Its Applications, June 11-16, 2007, Cusco, Peru

This Americas Program award will support a workshop on nuclear physics and applications to be held in conjunction with the Seventh Latin American Symposium on Nuclear Physics and Applications in Cusco, Peru, June 11-16, 2007. The workshop is being organized by Dr. Chanden Djalali of University of South Carolina, and Dr. Philip Cole of Idaho State University in collaboration with Dr. Fernando Umeres Sanchez of the Universidad Nacional San Antonio Abad del Cusco, Peru. The workshop will bring together graduate students and senior researchers from the United States and South America to promote dialogue and strengthen institutional links. This workshop will discuss topics presented at the symposium such as nuclear matter at high densities, nuclear astrophysics, neutrino physics, exotic nuclei, as well as photo- and electron-nuclear physics with the attendant applications of nuclear physics. By establishing links between the United States and Latin America this workshop will provide a means for recruiting high-caliber graduate-level students and post-doctoral fellows to pursue research at US institutions and laboratories. The workshop will also encourage existing U.S. graduate students and post-doctoral fellows to stay in the field by experiencing the international dimension and vitality of nuclear physics.
