This project aims at advancing the understanding of nondipole(quadrupole, andoctupole)interference effects in photoelectron angular distributions from atoms and ionsat low photon energies (tens eV to a few keV), at advancing the understanding ofquantum confined structures, and at fostering integration of research and education atthe University of North Alabama. Specifically:A. To learn about peculiarities of nondipole effects in photoelectron angulardistributions from a variety of atoms and ions with closed shells and open-shell atoms,especially atoms and ions that exhibit nd and/or nf collapse.B. To study confinement-produced effects on the structure and photoionization ofconfined atoms, both under high pressure and endohedrally confined in A@C60nano-formations.C. To involve undergraduate students, including international students, in research,thereby providing them an opportunity to get a superior professional education andtraining for entry into graduate study in physics or scientific and engineering careers,thus fostering integration of research and education at UNA with an internationaleducation impact.D. To enhance research infrastructure and emphasize the professor-researchermodel for faculty at four year UNA
