0710571Herrero-BerveraFunding from this grant supports an upgrade to an existing superconducting rock magnetometer at the University of Hawaii Paleomagnetics Laboratory to the latest liquid-He free cryogenic technology thus greatly reducing operating expenses and limiting down time required for thermal cycling following routine repairs. The upgraded SRM will foster continued PI research on geomagnetic field behavior as recorded by the intensity of magnetization of magnetic and paramagnetic minerals in volcanic rocks and sediments, analysis of weakly recorded fabrics within lava flows, and magnetostratigraphic investigations. The upgraded UH Paleomagnetic Lab will support student research and research training and foster collaborations with visiting scientists.***
