Position and Interpretation: Syntactic, Semantic and Information-Structural Constraints in Processing Adjuncts (B08)

The project investigates adjuncts at the syntax-semantics interface from a processing perspective. The goal for the last funding period is to establish an elaborate two-stage model of adjunct pro-cessing, which will constitute an important part of the model of semantic processing. We will focus on (i) crosslinguistic variation in head-modifier positions and its effect on incrementality, (ii) semantic modelling of position-dependent interpretation differences, and (iii) the role of context in the time course of processing adjuncts.
