Effects of Tax and p8 proteins on cell-to-cell transmission of Human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) (C06)

The viral transactivator Tax-1 and the accessory protein p8 are critical for HTLV-1 cell-to-cell transmission. However, the specific virus-host interface mediating virus transmission is only poorly understood. Project C6 seeks to continue mechanistic investigations on HTLV-1 transmission which will lead to a detailed understanding of this process. Consequently, the information obtained will be transferred into translational studies aiming at the inhibition of virus transmission by the means of small molecules, nanobodies, peptide mimicking and gene editing strategies.
