The use of EPR is further developed and used in order to localize the drugs and drug analogs within nanocarriers as well as the microenvironment. Drug and carrier are probed simultaneously, so that their structural changes upon application onto skin, 3D-skin models, and mucosa will be studied by continuous wave- and pulsed-EPR methods. Thereby, the release of drugs from nanocarriers and their skin penetration efficiency is investigated and will be extended to the analysis of further drugs, such as etanercept and tofacitinib, within different nanocarriers, such as nanocrystals, pH and redox responsive polymer architectures, depsipeptides, and thermoresponsive nanogels.
