GRK 442: Anatolia and Its Neighbours. Cultural Reciprocal Actions and the Development of Civilizations from the Neolithic to the Roman Imperial Periods

The research goals of the research training group involve the study ofcultural reciprocity mechanisms and processes of acculturation in Anatolia and its neighbouring regions. Based on those cultural signs or characteristics which still can be investigated by archaeological,philological, or historical analyses as well as by the natural sciences, the reciprocal contacts between Anatolia and its neighbouring cultures from the Neolithic to the Roman Imperial periods are to be examined. To this end, political, economic, religious, social, and art-historical phenomena whether material or linguistic, stand available as research tools. The areas under study can be located within Anatolia, on the edge of or bordering Anatolia, or include regions in close contact with Anatolia (Southeastern Europe, the Aegean, Northern Syria, the Caucasus region etc.). Ultimately, this interdisciplinary approach is intended to bridge thosedivisions which all too frequently separate the various disciplines.
