项目摘要

今年度の研究は主に旧制高校の出身者である郁達夫を中心に展開していた。具体的に言えば、郁達夫の代表作「沈淪」を取り上げ、旧制高校での留学経験が郁達夫に与えた近代に対する思考の枠組みを考察した。1923年、郁達夫は張聞天に宛てた手紙のなかで、「大衆を改造する」意欲があることを表明している。郁達夫と同じく教養共同体の構成員である倉田百三を補助線としてみれば、郁達夫が感じた近代人の苦悶の根源にあるのは、近代以来の知識と情意との分離状態によって生じた有機的な生命体の分離である。本研究が示したように、郁達夫は「沈淪」において、単なる「苦悶」を吐き出そうとしたのではない。郁は意識的に「同情」という概念を使い、近代以来の生命の主客分離状態によって生じた苦悶を超克し、主客合一という生命の原始状態に復帰しようと試みたのである。また、郁達夫ら初期創造社同人が愛用した「Sentimental」という表現は、当時の文壇で感傷主義の提唱と批判されたが、本研究で提示したように、「Sentimental」という表現は決して「感傷主義」と訳せないものである。その背後にあるのは、近代人の苦悶の根源にある主客分離の状態を修復し、生命の原始状態に復帰する試みである。これこそ、郁達夫が語った「沈淪イズム」の実体ではないだろうか。「沈淪イズム」の射程において、郁達夫が求めている理想的な大衆像、または未来の国民像は、理性と感情が合一できる状態であることが読み取れる。また、本研究で提示したように、郁達夫が大正教養主義の中心地である旧制高校で得た思想資源こそ、「近代人の苦悶」を解剖し、超克する道具であったのだ。その成果は『日本中国学会報』に投稿した。
