今年度はアブラハム・ガイガーの思想を中心にしたユダヤ学の研究状況の詳細な検討、彼の講義録に基づいたガイガーのユダヤ学の内実（イマヌエル・ヴォルフのユダヤ学との比較を含む）、ガイガーに影響を与えたプロテスタント神学者フェルディナント・クリスティアン・バウルの歴史叙述論の検討を行った。第一に、そもそもわが国ではユダヤ学の研究がほとんど手つかずなので、その研究状況が詳細に述べられることはない。それゆえ、今年度は1818年以降のユダヤ学研究のなかでガイガーの思想がどのような評価を受けてきたかを明らかにした。その結果、ガイガーのユダヤ学はある論者から見れば「狭すぎる」と批判されるわけだが、それは批判者が体系的視点に立っているか、あるいは歴史的視点に立っているかでその評価が大きく左右されることがわかった。第二に、ヴォルフの体系的なユダヤ学の構想と比較して、ガイガーのそれは歴史的な視点が強いと同時に、その背後に独特な形而上学的要素が存在し、この点に彼のユダヤ学の特徴があることを指摘した。すなわち、ガイガーにとってユダヤ学とはユダヤ教の〈起源〉と〈発展〉を歴史的に問う学問であり、これはヴォルフのユダヤ学とは異なる重要な形而上学的要素である。第三に、バウルの歴史批判的なキリスト教研究のなかで重要な位置を占める歴史叙述論について、その概要をまとめた。バウルは古代から彼の生きた時代までの教会史を書いている。その教会史を支えるのが彼の歴史叙述論であり、そこでは理念と現象の弁証法的関係が重要な役割を果たしている。ガイガーのユダヤ教史もまた、いわゆる実証的な歴史に収まるものではなく、その形而上学的要素を無視して、彼のユダヤ学を理解することはできない。これらの点を見ても、バウルとガイガーの歴史理解には何らかの共通性があるのではないかということについて、一定の見通しを得ることができた。
