本研究の目的は、フランスのアントワーヌ・ヴァトー（1684-1721）が描いた雅宴画（フェート・ギャラント）の解釈を、画中の生きているかのような裸婦彫刻モティーフを軸として、作品とともに当時流行していた「ピュグマリオン神話」をとりまく社会的・文化的コンテクストからの資料を用いて試みるものである。具体的には、ヴァトーによる新たな絵画ジャンルとしての雅宴画の創生と、彼の時代にピュグマリオン神話が諸芸術の題材となった現象を結びつけ、これらが、制作者であるヴァトーおよび注文主や受容者の芸術愛好に関わる同じ背景から生じていることを浮き彫りにする。そして、作品に描かれた彫刻モティーフに対するヴァトーや美術愛好家の眼差しを通して、雅宴画の主題解釈を導きつつ、美術愛好の在り方を提示し、美術が、それまでの政治や宗教の公的プロパガンダから、親密で私的な愛好としての存在意義を増していった、18世紀フランス美術史・文化史の近代化への一端を明らかにする。本年度の計画は、令和３年度に続き、次の①②③をもとに遂行された。計画①として、ヴァトーが雅宴画に女神の彫刻を描いた生成過程を画家自身の素描や絵画をもとに調査した。計画②として、18世紀フランスのピュグマリオン神話を題材とした絵画・彫刻・バレエ・演劇、芸術批評、芸術愛好等に関する文献を精読した。計画③として、フランス国立図書館のデータベースにてピュグマリオンの関連資料を網羅的に調査した。ヴァトー作品が展示された複数の国内の展覧会にて調査を行った。この結果をもとに、ピュグマリオンを扱った新興のオペラ＝バレエの作品と、ヴァトーの雅宴画との関連性を論文にて指摘した。
