项目摘要

当該年度は，昨年度に引き続き，星室庁が設置された1487年から1641年の廃止までの間，王政政体維持の脅威となったものを検証し，制定された政令とその機能を探った．特に，急進的思想を探るうえで，マルティン・ルターやウィリアム・ティンダルが主張した，魂は死後，肉体と共に墓で眠るというpsychopannychism，ジョン・カルバンやウィリアム・パーキンスが主張した，死後，肉体は墓にあり，魂は眠ったような状態で天国へ行くというpsychopannychia，トマス・ホッブスやリチャード・オーバトンが主張した，死後，肉体と魂はどこにも行かず，ただ墓の中にあるというthnetopsychismを前年度に引き続き検証した．特に，長老派のエフライム・パジェットやエドワーズは，オーバトンが主張するthnetopsychismを異端視したが，その異端性とジョン・ミルトンのMortalist Heresyについて纏めた論考を日本ミルトン協会第17回研究会「魂はなぜ眠るのかーMiltonとMortalist Heresy」（2022年12月17日）で発表した．また，異端思想抑制のため星室庁とウイリアム・ロードが利用した事前検閲制度と書籍出版業組合の機能を検証するため，「出版に関する星室庁令」 (1637)を中心に検討し，さらに星室庁崩壊後の噴出した出版物と,検閲制度の存続を，ミルトンがAreopagitica（1644）で非難した議会のAn Ordinance for the Regulating of Printing（1643）を中心に検討し，異端思想抑制を意図した事前検閲制度の機能について纏めた論考を十七世紀英文学東北支部例会「パンフレット戦争の黎明-Areopagiticaと出版物検閲制度をめぐって」（2023年3月28日）で発表した．
