项目摘要

本研究「カウンターカルチャー後のアメリカにおける福音派の音楽と政治に関する歴史的研究」は、1970年代以降のアメリカにおいて、福音派キリスト教徒が宗教右翼として政治的な存在感を高めていくなかで、音楽がどのような役割を果たしたのか、そして、カウンターカルチャーを担っていたヒッピーが集団で福音派キリスト教に改宗したジーザズ・ムーブメントを契機として発展したコンテンポラリー・クリスチャン・ミュージックが宗教右翼の台頭と勢力維持にどのような貢献をしたのかを明らかにすることを目的としている。２年目にあたる当該年度は、宗教右翼につながる戦後の保守主義の発展に関して、前年度に続き文献調査と講読を進めて概要を明らかにするととともに、宗教右翼の勢力拡大の経緯についても、昨今のアメリカにおける関連した出来事やその報道なども含めて検討することで、現代アメリカ社会との連続性という観点も取り入れて考察を進めた。また、ジーザズ・ムーブメントの舞台ともなった1960年代から1970年代の南カリフォルニアにおける政治と音楽の関連についても、地方選挙やその際に音楽を利用した政治家に関する資料などをさらに検証し、政治活動における音楽とメディアの役割について新たな知見を得た。特に、この地方選挙における白人有権者の人種意識と音楽の関連性に着目し、戦後の福音派の政治運動においても重要な役割を担った人種意識について再検証するとともに、それが音楽の発展に与えた影響についての考察も進めた。
