项目摘要

ヘレニズム時代のギリシア都市における青年市民層について、今年度はマケドニア王国、ペルガモン王国という個別の事例を中心に研究を行った。まず、マケドニアについては、ベロイアの「ギュムナシアルコスの法」碑文を分析した。同碑文にはギュムナシオン利用者としてNEOI,NEANISKOIという青年を示す集団が頻出するが、従来、両者は同義で、20歳から30歳の若者層と解釈されてきた。本研究ではギュムナシオンでの訓練内容を検討し、同碑文におけるNEOIは20歳以下も含む全体的な若者を指し、NEANISKOIについては20～30歳のギュムナシオンを中心としたグループを指すという解釈を提示した。さらにNEANISKOIの訓練内容について、おもに軍事訓練が行われていた点に着目し、彼らがアンティゴノス朝軍隊の主体となりえた可能性を検討した。これについては同じマケドニアの都市アンフィポリスから出土した、ギュムナシオンやその利用者にかんするギリシア語碑文を現在分析しており、ギュムナシオンを通してマケドニアの都市の青年市民がアンティゴノス王朝の行政・軍制においてどのような役割を果たしたのかを解明するための作業を行っている。ペルガモン王国については、エウメネス2世がプリュギア地方のトリアイオンの住民に送った3通の書簡を記録した碑文を考察した。書簡の中で共同体に都市（polis）の地位を承認するよう求めた同地の住民に対し、エウメネスはギュムナシオンの存在と若者（NEOI）に塗油のための油が十分供給できる財政基盤を条件としている。これに関連し、ペルガモン王国内のギュムナシオンに関連する碑文史料を考察し、ペルガモン王国がギュムナシオンを重視していたことを明らかにした。また、ギュムナシオンやギリシア都市機構の東方への伝播について、ヘレニズム・ローマ時代のユダヤの状況を事例として考察した。
