项目摘要

第二年度に当たる本年は当初、アメリカ、イギリス、台湾で調査を行い、本研究に必要な史料を収集する予定であったが、年度の前半は新型コロナウィルス感染拡大による渡航制限等により調査が実施できなかった。年度の後半から各国の渡航制限が解除されたものの、史料館の利用には依然として制限があったため、利用制限が撤廃された台湾において、中央研究院近代史研究所档案館、国家発展委員会档案管理局等において、主として外交部档案や国軍档案を収集した。英米における史料収集は次年度に持ち越すこととし、日本における調査を前倒し、防衛省防衛研究所戦史研究センター史料室、靖國偕行文庫、国会図書館等において1940年代の日本の対外政策、対中政策に関する史料を収集した。初年度の課題として挙げていた1941年の日米交渉における中国の働きかけについては、2022年9月に防衛省防衛研究所主催「戦争史研究国際フォーラム」において「蒋介石と対米開戦―情報と戦略」と題して報告を行い、間もなく当該研究所から公刊される予定である。また、第二年度の課題のうち、1942年から1943年にかけての日本側の対中政策について共著「「日軍為何始終未攻進重慶？（日本軍は何故重慶を攻略しなかったのか？）」を公刊した。年度の後半においては史料の分析をすすめ、おもに1942年から1943年にかけての日中双方の外交政策、ならびに軍事作戦等について検討を進めており、英米の史料を収集した後に成果として公刊する予定である。
