Global Sustainability Strategies of Asian Multinational Enterprises: Beyond COVID-19 Pandemic

The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and the emerging fear of ‘China’s rise’ along with the spread of nationalism have substantially redefined the globalization logic in the world, especially in the U.S. and Western countries. Multinational enterprises (MNEs)’s post-COVID strategies need to incorporate both risk management and institutional logic perspectives underlying globalization. Apart from pursuing cost-reduction, MNEs have also considered building more partnerships based on shared value to decouple from China. Such geopolitical pressure is however counteracted by economic rationality, creating unsettled priority between the globalization and deglobalization logics.
