本研究では、戦前から戦後にかけての満洲引揚者の社会移動に着目し、満洲時代の職業や学歴、家族構成などの社会的要因が、引揚げ後の再就職など生活再建にいかに影響を及ぼしているかを明らかにすることを目的とする。2022年度は、国内各所での現地調査を実施し、満洲移民輩出地の地域的特徴と傾向を調査した。これまでに実施した長野、京都、和歌山、東京、熊本に加えて、今年度は奄美大島と広島での調査を行った。奄美大島西部の宇検村では分村移民の状況について、奄美大島東部の笠利町では満鉄への就職事例について、それぞれ役場での資料調査と関係者への聞き取り調査を行なった。調査成果の一部は、2023年6月25日に日本移民学会（神田外国語大学）にて報告予定である。また広島では、広島郷土資料館や広島県立図書館にて、引揚港である宇品港に関する史資料を調査した。さらに、古市、地御前、仁保など、広島市の中でも特に海外移民を多く輩出した地域を巡り、各地に残る移民の歴史を顕彰した石碑や資料館を調査した。一方、当初予定していた中国での現地調査については、新型コロナウイルス感染拡大による渡航制限により中止した。次年度も中国調査を計画しているが、引き続き渡航が制限される場合は国内での調査を優先する。
