2022（令和4）年度は、Webに掲載された,2009年から2022年までの新聞・雑誌記事、通信社の記事、米国CNN, CBS、NBC, ABCなどの沖縄関連報道のスクリプトを国立国会図書館のデータベースを活用し収集した。2022年は沖縄が日本に復帰して50周年であったが、我々の調査の範囲では、2022年1月～5月の日本復帰の日まで、米国の主要な雑誌には、復帰50周年に関する記事はほとんど見られなかった。唯一の例外として、Ｕ.S.News＆World Reportにおける沖縄の復帰記事があったため、その沖縄の日本「復帰」50周年の報道について論考を執筆した。同誌の報道は、APとロイター通信の記事を採用したものであったが、沖縄の歴史や現状、住民の心情を正確に反映しているものであるといえる。特にAPの記事は、長年、沖縄に関する報道に携わってきた記者が沖縄の歴史や在沖米軍基地問題に関して、通信社配信の記事としては、これまでにない、沖縄の住民の視点から切り込んだ報道がなされていたといえる。また、これまで米国誌の中でも保守的な論調であったU.S.News & World Reportが、自国の対沖縄政策に批判的ともとらえられるフレーミングの記事を採用したことについては、ジャーナリズムの観点からも評価できる。コロナ禍で米国での調査がかなわず、スクリプトの電子データの収集が大幅に遅れている。動画のスクリプトの書き起こしを試みていたが、相当な時間を要するため、国立国会図書館で記事や放送番組のスクリプトを印刷媒体で収集し、データベース作成と分析、論考執筆を進めている。
