今年度の研究実績は以下の3点にまとめられる。１．福岡県農会の1931-41年度「農家経済調査報告書」に収められた17農家の分析を終えることができた。鉱工業が盛んで農外就業機会が豊富という地域特性を反映した家族戦略の一つとして、傍系成員の通勤兼業がある。彼らの賃金をプールして農業の多角化や機械化、副業の入替を進めることにより、世代交代プロセスの円滑な進行と経営基盤の安定化を図るのである。２．今年度より一橋大学「戦前期農家経済調査データベース」の利用を開始し、全国の農家の分析が可能となった。その準備作業として、標本バイアスの検討を行った。データベースに含まれる619世帯3280世帯年の家族形態を分析した結果、単独世帯や非家族世帯はごくわずかで、直系家族周期にある農家のなかでも夫婦家族世帯の時期にある農家は過小であること、すなわち、労働組織として脆弱な農家は過小であることが明らかとなった。３．データベースに加え、京都大学所蔵の個別原票の閲覧も許可され、利用な可能なデータが質量ともに拡大したことを受けて、新たな分析枠組の構築に取り組んだ。データベースは計量分析を目的としているが、個別世帯の事例分析にも耐えうるほどの厖大な情報を含む。また個別原票には現金収支と労働時間に関する詳細なデータがある。こうしたデータ特性を活かし、マッピングとモノグラフの組み合わせにより、マクロとミクロを連接するという方法を採ることにした。データベースに含まれる農業経営に関するデータと1930年国勢調査の工業に関するデータを地図に落として地域産業構造を可視化し、そこから特徴ある地域を選んで個別農家の事例分析を行うのである。モノグラフの対象地域としては、これまで分析してきた福岡県をベースとし、これとは産業構造が異なるいくつかの地域に焦点化し、家族戦略の地域的多様性の記述・説明を試みる。
