eコマースやキャッシュレス決済が急速に普及し、子どもたちが生活の中で現金の授受を見たり体験したりする機会が急激に減少している。そのため、金銭についての直感的な理解が困難になっている。そこで本研究では、幼稚園や保育所で行われている“お金”に関する教育の事例を分析するとともに、家庭で行われている金銭教育の現状や保護者の意識を明らかにする。具体的には家庭での養育環境や保護者の金銭教育に関する意識と子どものお金の機能や役割についての理解度の関連を分析し、日本の現状に合致した金銭教育のモデルを構築することを目指す。2022年度は家庭での金銭教育の現状や保護者の金銭行動と、子どものお金の機能や役割についての理解度を明らかにするために予備調査を実施した。予備調査から、(1)保護者が家庭で行う金融教育には年齢に応じて段階的に実施しているものと年齢に関係なく実施しているものがあること、(2)保護者はお金についての知識だけでなく態度や意識の形成も重要であると考えていること、(3)キャッシュレス決済を利用している保護者の方が子どものお金についての教育に熱心であること、(4)お金の機能や役割を理解するためには経験（買い物に行く、支払いをする）が重要であること、などが明らかになり、学会（国際家政学会、家族関係学部会セミナー、日本保育学会）で報告した。本調査を実施するにあたって(1)子どもの発達段階をふまえてどの段階でどのような教育が必要なのかをさらに明らかにする必要があること、(2)保護者の評価から子どものお金や機能についての理解度を測定するには限界があること、(3)子どものお金についての理解度を把握するためには保育施設での経験も考慮する必要があること、などが課題としてあがった。
