Excellent optoelectronic properties of Pb hybrid halide perovskites made them superstars in photovoltaics. However, Pb toxicity hinders their application in consumer electronics. In this project, I studied applicability of my polyiodide-assisted/iodination method [Nat. Nanotech. 14, 57, 2019] for the fabrication of hybrid halides of transition metals. There was no significant reaction between Ti, Zr, Nb and W and MAI3 polyiodide. However, iodination of mixed Ag-Bi and Cu-Bi films resulted in Ag3BiI6, Ag2BiI5, AgBi2I7, Cu2BiI5, CuBiI4 semiconductors with direct Eg of 1.8-1.86 eV. In addition, InBiI4 films with direct Eg=1.75 eV were fabricated by spin coating from InI:BiI3 solution in DMSO. Also, a record photoconversion efficiency of 6.4% was demonstrated for optimized AgBiI4 solar cell.
