项目摘要

ガボン、ムカラバ-ドゥドゥ国立公園（以下、ムカラバ）に生息するニシローランドゴリラの群れを対象に、1）群内の個体の活動はどの程度同調しており、どのような個体間でより同調性が高いか；2）個体間の活動の同調に影響する生態学的要因は何か、の2点を明らかにすることを目的として、2022年8月から9月にかけて1回、研究代表者とガボン人研究協力者のEbang Ellaが野外調査を実施し（調査1）、2023年2月から3月にかけて、Ebang Ella氏を単独で調査地に派遣して野外調査を実施した（調査2）。調査1では個体レベルでの行動記録に不可欠な個体追跡法による調査の試行を行った。しかし、依然として新型コロナウイルス感染症が流行中であり、ガボン入国後、帰国後ともに感染拡大防止のために自己隔離期間を取る必要があり、十分な調査時間をとることができなかった。とはいえ、現在の調査対象群において、オトナオス（シルバーバック）、授乳中のメス2頭、およびワカモノオス2頭については、観察者が追従しても大きく行動を変えることなく、個体追跡による行動データ収集が可能であることが確認できた。ただし、同一調査日に追跡対象個体を頻繁に変更すると、対象個体を探す時間がかかり、観察時間が十分にとれないこと、観察者が群れの中で動き回るためにゴリラたちの活動を乱してしまうこともわかった。調査1の試行を踏まえ、本格的なデータサンプリングのための調査プロトコルを作成した。一人の観察者は1日1頭を追跡対象とし、ゴリラに過剰なストレスを与えないよう、1時間に2回、各15分の個体追跡セッションを行うこととした。調査2では、作成したプロトコルに従って予備的データを収集するとともに、プロトコルの問題点の洗い出しを行った。ほぼ問題なくデータ収集できたが、代表者による研究協力者の追加トレーニングの必要姓が認められた。
