研究では、小学生を対象として、過度なゲームの使用の割合、1日当たりのゲームの平均使用時間、依存の程度、社会生活への影響、睡眠障害、活動量低下などの身体的影響の評価を目的としている。これまでに、ゲームやインターネットの利用と睡眠や活動量の関連があることが示されている。信州大学医学部附属病院子どものこころ診療部に通院している患者を対象に構造化することで、より調査に参加しやすくなると考え、マインクラフトを用いた集団精神療法の有効性の評価を行いつつ、初期評価として、ゲームの使用時間、ゲームの種類を評価し、それぞれの睡眠時間への影響がないかを評価している。
