2018年（平成30年）4月1日に平成30年度診療報酬改定が施行され、性別適合手術や乳房切除など性同一性障害の手術療法に対する健康保険の適用が開始された。しかし、性同一性障害の治療有効性については、いまだ客観的評価は確立されておらず、治療効果判定の客観的指標の確立が急務であった。岡山大学ジェンダーセンターでは、これまでの研究で、性別違和の客観的指標となる質問項目を選択してきた。それらを用いて性別適合手術の術前後で質問紙調査を実施し、統計処理による手術有用性の検証を行うことで、治療効果の客観的評価方法の開発を行っている。最終的な目的は、得られたデータをフィードバックして、更に質問項目の整理を行い、治療有効性・性別違和を客観的に評価可能な質問紙調査票をGender-Qとして確立、実臨床における有用性を確認していくことである。対象となる性同一性障害の治療としては、男性型胸壁形成術（chest wall contouring surgery 以下CCS）、外陰部女性化術、陰茎形成術、顔面女性化術、そして声帯手術である。この中で、CCSは、Transmenの症状緩和を目的に行われる手術加療の一つであるが、症例数が最も多いことから、第一に評価するべき事項とした。我々が実施した客観的指標となる質問紙調査は、術前後での性別違和の改善評価をUtrecht Gender Dysphoria Scale(以下UGDS)とジェンダー・アイデンティティ尺度（以下GI尺度）、QOL変化をWHO Quality of Life 26(以下WHOQOL 26)、うつ状態の変化をベックうつ質問票（以下BDI-II）とProfile of Mood States 2nd Edition（以下POMS2）で行った。すべてのアンケートは臨床心理士が施行し、得られたデータを統計学的に検討した。
