先行研究レビューの結果に基づき、高血圧症または２型糖尿病患者が診断されてから現在に至るまでどのように自分の病気を位置付け、医療者に対してどのような役割を求めているのかを明らかにすることを目的としたインタビュー調査「生活習慣病の壮年期患者を対象とした薬物療法に関する質的研究」を実施した。慢性疾患における薬物治療は長期に渡るため患者の病気の受け止め方や薬物治療に取り組む姿勢は常に一定とは限らず、流動的に変化していくと考えられる。よって医療者はこの患者の変化に応じた配慮を行っていく必要がある。インタビュー調査による質的な分析により、生活習慣病の個別の疾患について患者の薬物療法に対する思いや感情、薬局薬剤師の問いかけに対する患者の感情や反応を明らかにすることで、薬局における薬剤師と生活習慣病患者の双方向的な情報授受促進に関連する対話構造の解明され、薬局にて患者から収集できる情報の量や質の増加、ひいては薬物療法の効率化や安全性の向上に繋がると考える。2022年6月に、早期の重症化予防の観点から壮年期を対象とし、高血圧患者15名、2型糖尿病患者5名に対してインタビュ調査を行い、質的分析によりラベル(概念)の生成を行った。高血圧患者では、「高血圧と合併症の関連性への関心」「薬物治療を行うことの肯定」「服薬の必要のない状況への意欲」「薬物治療への諦め」「血圧値の軽視」「体重の減量への高い意欲」などのラベルが生成された。2型糖尿病患者では、「糖尿病の軽視」「他人事な認識」「皮膚に針を刺されることへの強い嫌悪」「薬物治療は手段と認識」「検査値の正常化という治療目標」「合併症の知識を活かせていない状態」などのラベルが生成された。現在は、医師に診断され薬物治療や習慣改善の経時的変化をTEM（複線径路等至モデル）による記述を行っている。
