本研究は、看護職の仕事と生活の調和を実現し、成果につなげるために必要なトップマネージャーのマネジメントのあり方を明らかにし、そのコンピテンシーを測定するための尺度開発を目指している。この研究の前提として、病院の勤務状況やマネジメントのあり方が通常の状況であることが必要である。2020年から世界にまん延した新型コロナ感染症の影響で、看護職の働き方や看護管理者のマネジメントは通常とは大きく変化した。臨床で働く看護職は疲弊し、看護管理者も対応に振り回された。また、感染対策のために自宅に帰ることができない看護師もおり、仕事と生活の調和実現とはかけ離れた現状であった。このような状況から、2021年度は必要なデータを収集することができないと判断し、研究者のホームページからアンケートの回答できるように準備をした。2022年度は、ワクチン等の普及に伴い重症者が減少し臨床も落ち着くのではないかと考え、量的調査の準備を進めた。研究倫理審査委員会の承認を受け調査依頼を行ったが、感染対策を理由に必要数の協力者を集めることができなかった。対象施設10施設（各施設看護師100名）に依頼し、許諾を得たのは１施設20名であった。2023年度に、追加で調査依頼を行う予定である。新型コロナ感染症の取り扱いが変わることから、実施可能であると考える。海外でのインタビューについても、新型コロナ感染症による行動制限で延期していた。フランスの病院の看護管理者を対象にインタビューを計画し準備を進めている。
