本研究の目的は、禁煙率向上に寄与するため、禁煙外来に携わる看護師の禁煙支援技術向上を目指し、先行研究（高橋，2017）で明らかにしてきた熟練看護師の持つ禁煙支援技術を実践の場で使えるようガイドブックとして開発し、その実用性と有効性を評価することである。ガイドブック開発の基礎資料を得るため、令和２年度には禁煙外来に携わる看護師・准看護師（以下、看護職）を対象に禁煙支援の実態とニーズを明らかにする質問紙郵送調査を行った。令和３年度には調査分析を行い、その結果、禁煙外来に携わる看護職は、５回ある禁煙外来を患者が完遂できないこと、一旦禁煙しても患者が再喫煙してしまい禁煙継続できないこと、タバコをやめる気を感じない患者がいること、看護職が新型タバコに対する知識が追いつかず患者に対応できないことなどに困難を感じており、模範となる具体的な対応例などを望んでいることが明らかとなった。令和４年度は、学会発表を通じてこれらの調査結果を公表するとともに、看護職の困り事やニーズを踏まえ、共同研究者らとガイドブックの開発を行った。医療職が行う基本的な禁煙支援のための学習教材はe-ラーニングで既存していることから、本ガイドブックは経験の浅い看護職を対象とするのではなく、一通りの禁煙支援ができる看護職を対象とし、看護職が禁煙支援に困難を感じる具体的な場面について、Q＆Aの形で対応の参考例などを示すこととした。ガイドブック完成後は、看護職を対象にガイドブックの実用性・有用性を検証していく。その結果を基にガイドブックのさらなる洗練化を行い、広く活用の場を設けることで、禁煙外来における看護職の禁煙支援技術の一助となると考える。
