本研究は、変わりゆくブリテン島とアイルランド島の関係性を、ブレグジットにおいて焦点化されることになった「アイリッシュ・ボーダー」「在英アイリッシュ」「和平合意後の北アイルランドにおけるユニオニズム」の3つの研究軸にもとづいて、あらたに捉え直すことを目的としている。2022年度も①基本文献の収集・分析、②最新の研究成果をフォローアップするための学会や研究会、ワークショップへの参加、③資料館での一次資料の収集、④ブリテンおよび南北アイルランドでの聞き取り・フィールドワークを予定していたものの、前年度に引き続き、新型コロナウィルスの世界的な感染拡大と入国・出国規制により海外渡航が制限されたため、大幅な計画の変更を余儀なくされた。そこで、前年度に着手した資料のアーカイヴ化を継続するとともに、イギリス・アイルランドの研究者や研究機関との交流を通じて、特に「在英アイリッシュ」にかんする日本における研究の意義について先行研究もふまえながら明確化し、戦後イギリスで最大のエスニック・マイノリティでありながら「白人の一体性」という神話の下で見えなくされてきた歴史的背景をたどるとともに、その「可視化（visualization）」の過程を幾つかの契機においてあぶりだすことを試みた。その成果は、「在英アイリッシュ」を可視化する（visualising Irish in Britain）」というタイトルのもと刊行済みである。また、1970年代の北アイルランド紛争最盛期における在英アイリッシュの経験を探るために、各種報告書、証言の記録集やインタビュー、デジタル・アーカイヴに収蔵された資料の収集につとめるとともに、研究の目的にかなうフィールドについて比較検討をおこなった。
