本年度もCOVID-19感染の拡大と収束が繰り返され、当該研究に必須と考えられる国内外の観察地域渡航がほとんど実施できなかった。数少ない現地訪問は、昭和30～40年代に新婚旅行地としてブームに沸いた宮崎と、戦後復興期に、主に関東在住の新婚カップルに人気の旅行地であった熱海の2か所にとどまった。前者は、新旧皇族の宮崎訪問、新婚者向け夜行急行の導入、我が国初の地方空港ジェット化、テレビ小説の舞台、映画の舞台などが総合して大ブームを引き起こしたが、それを仕掛けた人物がいることが明らかになった。さらに、実は戦前期にもマーケティング活動によって宮崎が旅行地として注目を集めたことも分かった。一方の熱海は、同市役所の協力のもと、現在は閉館し歴史資料館となっている高級老舗旅館に残された宿泊関連書簡を借りることができ、今後その分析を行う予定である。現在のようなITによる宿泊予約が存在しない時代に、手紙による予約手続きから、同時代の新婚旅行カップルの様相を探る。両地域とも、訪問を通じて興味深い資料渉猟がなされた。翌年度、これらを整理して学会発表したいと考えている。COVID-19の分類変更が実施された翌年度（本報告書作成時点・2023年5月）は、これまでの遅れを取り戻すべく集中して観察地訪問を計画している。研究最終年度として、最終成果作成のため、観察地訪問にとどまらず、研究に資する諸活動を精力的に実施する覚悟である。
