本研究のプロセスはStep1：男性看護師と患者間に生じるジェンダー問題構造の明確化、Step2：熟練男性看護師のジェンダー問題対応力の修得過程の明確化、Step3：教育内容の抽出と教育プログラムの作成、Step4：模擬患者を用いた場面設定による客観的能力試験でプログラム検証、Step5：教育プログラムの検証の5つのStepを計画している。現在はStep１の調査は終了しており、データ分析を行っている。結果、新人看護師は女性患者に対して、全身清拭や陰部洗浄、尿留置カテーテルの挿入や抜去について、看護職であることより男性であっても実施すべきで、その行為自体は自分は恥ずかしいと感じないが、本来女性が羞恥心を持つので拒否するのは当たり前だと捉えていた。また、女性患者を年齢で区分し、成人期の女性患者には最初から拒否されると考えて、ケアへのインフォームドコンセントを行わず女性看護師に依頼していた。しかし、後期高齢期の場合や関係性が良好だと感じた場合はケアの了承を得る行動をし、実施できたりできなかったりする経験をしていた。断られた際には仕方ないことと思い、その女性患者には二度と依頼することがない様に、チームの女性看護師に依頼をして、特に断られたことに対する精神的なダメージを抱かないでいた。ただし、女性看護師が気を利かしてケアを代行してくれても負担であろうと感じるため、他のケアを進んで実施するようにしていた。男性患者に対してはケアは全て実施しており、女性患者のように気を遣わなくてよいと感じていた。また、性的な会話も気にならず、ケアは男性がした方がよいだろうと捉えていた。しかし、女性看護師が男性患者のケアで困難を訴えた場合は代行するが、事前に代行する意思はなかった。以上について論文作成中である。また、Step2の熟練男性看護師の面接調査のデータ分析も進めて論文投稿予定である。
